温州永嘉县的北部一带都是山区，山清水秀，风景优美，即是著名的国家级风景区——楠溪江。

    Fenglin, a famous national scenic spot in a mountain area, is located in the north part of Yongjia county, Wenzhou. Wedged between hills and waters, the place is endowed with beautiful scenery and delightful climate. 

    在这山区里曾是温州天主教会活跃兴盛一时的发源地，其中枫林镇天主堂为楠溪一带的核心和根据地，先后有两位波兰籍和国籍八位神父驻扎过本堂。

    This mountain area was once a place of catholic origin with Fenglin as its center parish. There have been two Polish and eight Chinese priests serving here.   

    永嘉县枫林镇天主堂于1887年始（即清朝光绪十三年）由仙居县传入永嘉县南岸地方，再由南岸传入枫林镇。

    The evangelization of Fenglin, Yongjia was from Xianju county to the south Yongjia, then Fenglin in 1887.

    最初信教的人是徐定雨，相继是徐定木等人。临时堂点设在徐定木楼上，那时教会发展迅速，仅三、四年时间教友就发展至300人左右。后来于1897年由温州总堂资助开始建堂。

    The first believer was Xu Dingyu, then Xu Dingmu and others. In the beginning, The prayer place was temporarily at the second floor of Xu Dingmu’s house. The church quickly developed then. Within three or four years, the number of the believers reached 300 or so. Supported by Wenzhou Cathedral, they started to build a church.   

    首任司事是谢干甫先生。待圣堂落成后首任本堂司铎是林隐泉神父（定海县人），从1925～1936年达十一年之久。同时，还有辅助司铎林隆起神父和波兰籍神父冯公，以及吴希天神父（宁波新昌县人）。

    The first lay minister was Mr. Xie Ganfu. After erecting the church, Fr. Lin Yinquan(from Dinhai county), the first parish priest, has served here for more than ten years(1925-1936). Meantime, the assistant priests were: Fr. Lin Longqi, Fr. Feng from Poland and Wu Xitian(from Xinchang of Ningbo).

    在林公任本堂神父时，枫林堂区（因永嘉县教会的根基在枫林，故枫林原先即为总堂）传教事业突飞猛进，堂点曾分设在30多个乡村：南岸、岩坦、鲤溪、垟头、下家岙、周宅、西岙、岩头、五瀬、烘头、石柱、小坑、东村、档溪、包岙、苍坡、霞美、罗坑、陡门、渠口、珠岙、小箬口、白泉、碧莲、小渠、昆垟、田垟、下塖、柴皮、汤店、小溪、旸岙、峙口。期间吴希天神父在枫林三年后就被调到温州任增爵学校校长。后来本堂司事有刘玉廷先生和陈澄川先生。

    While Fr. Lin was the parish priest, the missionary work here developed very fast. And missionary stations spread over 30 villages: Nan’an, Yantan, Lixi, Yangtou, Xiajia’ao, Zhouzhai, Xi’ao, Yantou, Wuchi, Hongtou, Shizhu, Xiaokeng, Dongcun, Dangxi, Bao’ao, Cangpo, Xiamei, Luokeng, Doumen, Qukou, Zhu’ao, Xiaoruokou, Baiquan, Bilian, Xiaoqu, Kunyang, Tianyang, Xiasheng, Chaipi, Tangdian, Yang’ao, Shikou. After working in Fenglin three years, Fr. WuXitian was called to Wenzhou and appointed the director of St. Vicent School. By then, the lay ministers were Mr. Yuting and Mr. Cheng Chengchuan.

    1936年以后，波兰籍高若山神父任本堂司铎，有施若望神父、吴希天神父（二次来枫林）辅助。本堂司事则是邵美卿先生和陈寰虎先生。

    After 1936, Polish priest Fr. Gao Ruoshan was the parish priest. Fr. Shi Ruowang and Fr. Wu Xitian helped him. The lay ministers were Mr. Shao Meiqing and Mr. Chen Huanhu.

    1946年后吴神父就任为本堂司铎，有郑正熙和杨君陶两位神父辅助。杨公不久就调至乐清虹桥，遂又有张乃布神父来枫林。1949年吴神父兼任了圣母慈爱祈祷会指导司铎。当时本堂司事是徐如山先生，共有教友约500人。1952年下半年吴神父离开了枫林，即刻神父空缺了半年多。到1953年上半年李仁声神父到来任本堂司铎。

    In 1946, Fr. WuXitian was in charge of the parish, with assistant priests Fr. Zheng Zhengxi and Fr. Yang Juntao. Before long, Fr. Yang was called to Hongqiao of Yueqing county, and Fr. Zhang Naibu came to Fenglin. In 1949, Fr. Wu was also the guiding priest of the Loving Mother Community. By the time, the lay minister was Mr. Xu Rushan, and the believers were about 500. the second half year of 1952, Fr. Wu left Fenglin, and for half year, there was no Parish priest until Fr. Wu Rensheng’s coming in 1953.

    后来吴神父、张乃布神父被捕。于1955年8月～11月间教难来临，从此以后，圣堂被侵占，教产洗劫一空。圣堂也一度被用作大会堂及后来改做电影院，直到宗教政策落实后于1987年开始部分房产归还。最后于1992年上半年才全部收回，可惜当时是个多处伤痕的教堂空壳。

A few years later, Fr. Wu and Fr. Zhang Naibu were arrested for the faith. From August to November of 1955, the Catholic Church in Fenglin experienced her hard time. The church was taken over and the property of the church was nationalized or confiscated by the government. it was once used as a meeting hall and later a theatre until the religious policy coming up in 1987. The government started to slowly give back the Church properties up to 1992 all was returned. Sadly, the church was badly damaged .

    不过，在1978～1993一直由徐振存神父陆续为山区的教友们施行圣事，跋山涉水，历经千辛万苦。直到2004年才有教区派遣黄超心神父任本堂司铎至今，目前负责十个堂口的牧灵工作。

    From 1978 to 1993, Fr. Xu Zhencun had exercised the sacraments here from time to time over lot sufferings. Only in 2004, Fr. Huang Chaoxin was sent here and took the position of the parish priest till now. So far, he is in charge of ten Sub-parishes.
